Why Print Pictures | A gift I will treasure Forever… | {Personal}

February 9, 2016

I came home today and found a yellow envelope on my desk with my name on it.  As usual, I was anxious to get back to editing while the kids were in school, but I took one second to see what it was …. From Lee and Sheila Aronfeld. What could it be???

print your photosI couldn’t wait to open this and check it out …. Wow! …. a printed photo!!!  What is this …. I couldn’t believe that I actually had received a gift from a friend, a client, a customer …. no a friend! For as long as I have known Lee, I have had the privilege to drool over his incredible photo collection, including a piece by Annie Leibovitz (YES, I’ve seen it).  Lee had actually captured a photo of us as we were walking through Camana Bay, after stopping for a coffee.  I made a decision to slow down a bit, to take less appointments and to take time off with my family and “suck the marrow out of life” as Robin Williams said in Dead Poets Society.  This day had been very special to me, as Gary and I had told the kids there were to be big changes on the front!  The family front!  We were going to spend more time together doing nothing but laughing, and making fun of each other and playing tricks on each other (the kids are winning).  We even have a dance now …. well almost. We had gone to Camana Bay for a coffee to tell them that we are going to try to be better parents and I especially HAVE to be a better mummy!  I can’t believe they are mine! When I saw this photo on my desk and I looked up at all the editing I had to do, I stopped and thought of the memories from this day and our commitment to our family and each other, I remembered how Liam wanted to wear his bow tie and Noah ordered breakfast, even though it was lunch time, and Cooper told us he had a crush and Shae needs new shoes. I stopped and remembered how Lee and Sheila stopped us and made a comment how lovely it was to see us together and goofing off and asked if he could take a photo of it.  I didn’t think much of it then, but now that I have this photo it brought back all those wonderful memories and now that photo is PRINTED.  What gift is better than this?print your photosThis is not a photo I will have only in my phone or computer, but one that Lee and Sheila printed for me to cherish FOREVER and to share with everyone who comes to my home.  I quickly got a frame from Picture This and placed it on my coffee table. The next morning the kids woke up and saw it and as kids do, they proceeded to make their random comments …. “thats nice Mum”, “Hey, was that the day we went to Camana Bay and we played hide and seek in the tower”, “Mum, is Liam ever going to grow?” and “Oh, I remember that day …. that was fun!” I know I have made the right decision to cherish this wonderful amazing gift.  I have been blessed with …. “MY FAMILY”!  Thank you Lee and Sheila for giving this print to me …. I don’t often get family photos (the cobblers children have no shoes … right). Photographers’ children don’t get too many photos where mummy is in it.  🙂a typical family photo framedSometimes we take for granted that all the photos we have in our computers, our phones and our tablets are FOREVER …. but that is not always the case as many people will tell you that they have hard drive failure and loose all their data and all their photos. There is nothing more fun then going over to my mums house and the kids going through the boxes of photos and laughing at the old photos… “Seriously mum you wore that?” “Daddy is that you?” and watch as Grammy shows the kids ‘our’ life. I love printing photos whether in form of digital albums or prints and framing them and when I change them up, I put those other photos in a box. Then we get them out and relook at them and guess who is who and remember all the memories…. So I wanted to share this experience with you because I was so moved that this couple would give me such a precious gift. They could have emailed it to me, but they took the time to print me this photo in an 8×10, for me to frame, because they realize the value of printing your memories. rebecca davidson photo

“Want to make sure a photograph survives your lifetime? Print it out.” That’s the warning Internet pioneer Vint Cerf gave at a talk recently, saying that vast amounts of digital information may soon be lost in a new digital “dark age.” It is an incredible article about how massive amounts of digital photos will potentially be lost. Don’t loose you special memories.

Thank you Lee and Sheila Aronfeld!!!!!!!
