I was so excited to get to photograph this wedding of Jen and Mark at the gorgeous Southern Cross Club in Little Cayman. When I first met them in the coffee shop I knew they were “perfect for me” hahahaha, sorry couldn’t resist saying that. I loved their style and their vision, the simplicity of their wedding but their obvious love was just amazing. So here goes… ready for their…

We got engaged in Little Cayman and couldn’t think of anywhere better to seal the deal… it’s our favorite place and now it will be special to us forever.

The first look and straight afterwards– adventuring around the island, climbing over wet docks, through palm tree groves and down dirt roads was a blast, and of course the ceremony and dinner under the stars felt so special. The amazing sunset that turned the whole sky pink after a fairly overcast day also seemed like a sign of good luck.

We set the tone of the day from first thing in the morning; Mark and his dad set out for some fishing on the SCC skiff with Patrick and Jen was joined by her mother-in-law, brother, and brother’s girlfriend for a slow and mindful yoga practice led by Claire of Little Island Yoga. We met afterwards totally relaxed and clear-minded for the festivities ahead.

I knew I wanted a simple dress and figured I’d try my luck ordering online. It took about five minutes of perusing “white dresses” on Google… jackpot on the first website! Just what I had in mind and considering myself lucky to count international shipping rates and import duty as my greatest wedding dress woes.

When Jen moved to Grand Cayman in 2013, Mark was the one sent from the office to come pick her up at the airport! Each new hire gets assigned a buddy and with Jen’s buddy being out of town on the day she landed, it had been arranged for another person in the office to fill in. So he was literally the first person she met upon exiting Customs with about four massively oversize duffel bags in tow. She thought… cool accent and nice tan! He thought… cute girl and I’m glad I borrowed a mate’s car to get her and didn’t bring my scooter! But we never would have guessed that in four and a half years we’d be standing barefoot on the beach saying I do.

Mark loves to fish and our typical trips to Little Cayman entail lots of fishing for him and relaxing on the beach for her, so Jen certainly didn’t suspect anything different in December when he came marching down the beach telling her of the three different fish he’d just caught. Turns out the fishing hot streak was the precursor to a marriage proposal… he’d in fact been wearing the ring on his pinky finger while fishing since he wasn’t sure where else to safely hide it away from her.

Very laid back and low maintenance, both SCC and Rebecca made everything so easy for us so we could just enjoy the experience from beginning to end and not feel any stress.

Do a first look and trust your photographer. If you have the opportunity, scope out the area for beautiful photography spots the day before because we found a few hidden gems during our reconnaissance mission around the island.

It was so fun and seamless. Rebecca really captured our personalities, we don’t like anything too overly serious or dramatic and we were amazed how immediately she knew exactly our style and we could just all relax and joke around while taking pictures together.

Relaxed and natural but still surreal.
