Cayman Islands Newborn Session
INTRODUCING VALENTINA AND HER SECOND DAY ON EARTH

When Tawnie called me to say she was having a baby I was giddy and couldn’t wait to be part of her newborn session!!!! Tawnie and Blackie had asked me to do their engagement session (click to see link) a few years ago and their Trash the Dress Session for their wedding, so I was thrilled to photograph the newest member of their family. As you know, I mostly do weddings but when Tawnie wanted me to capture the whole story (the hospital and then to the house with the grandparents a few days later) I couldn’t resist! Grandparents all had a part in the shoot which is so very special….. we also put her on daddy’s guitar as her daddy plays to her often. Mummy really just loved swaddling her and putting pretty bows on her :). Takes lots of patience and time and feeding…. (feeding the baby too) but it was great to hang out with Tawnie for the morning and take a break from editing beautiful weddings and play with a baby again….. 🙂

Here is Valentina’s story so far…..
How did you choose the name Valentina:
The name Valentina came about as we needed a name that worked in 3 languages and sounded good in all 3 (Spanish, Italian and (Caymanian) English, lol). I thought for sure she was a boy and we pretty much had the name Gael Sebastián picked out but when we found out she was a girl, the name Valentina just seemed to fit perfectly. (I was so convinced she was a boy until the moment she came out, even though every doc visit Dr Deosaran assured us she was a girl, that we even had written a birth plan to include our circumcision plan- haha).
Valentina also is a name that I hold dear because I have two ladies that have inspired me in my life, a Valerie and a Tina, so when we finally settled on the name it, I loved that her name would include both of their names. I haven’t told these ladies this yet – but they are two people that are incredibly positive, effervescent people and I would hope that my daughter also finds inspiration from these ladies.
Her middle name, Lee, is especially important to us and is a nod to my father (his middle name is Lee). This middle name is also shared with my sister, Crystal. I wanted to honor my dad with naming her after him as without him and his endless support – we would not have our daughter today. So a big thank you my mom and dad for all of their love and everything they have done and continue to do for us.

Were you surprised with her weight?
Before they made the cut (she was a sunroof delivery) I had all the doctors and nurses feel my belly and make bets on what she would weigh. No one guessed less than 7 lbs 5 oz!!
Daddy’s hands…. baby’s feet!
As a surprise Crystal, the brand spanking new auntie whose only current job is to plan her wedding in July and spoil her new niece with enough outfits to change each hour, surprised Tawnie and jumped on a plane and flew in on the day she was born!!!!!!! Did I tell you how much I love this family!!!!
Tawnie gave Valentina a little feed and a cuddle then we swaddled here in some cheesecloth and stuck a big bow on her head 🙂 So cute
What special props were important for you to include….
As for the guitar – David started learning to play on his own in the last two years but when we got pregnant he would practice and play in the evenings to my belly. The guitar was important to photograph as those moments during pregnancy were so sweet that I wanted to capture her posed on the guitar to bring it all full circle.
Tawnie’s dad came to hold his new grand daughter…. HOW cute are grandparents in photos here, and Blackies’ mum spent some time with her son and new grand daughter before jumping on a plane back home.
