One day early on in our relationship we were at dinner and I said, “You know what I’ve always wanted to do? Get on a plane and have no idea where in the world I’m going. Have nothing lined up. Just go. Wouldn’t that be awesome?” Shawn immediately said, “I could never do that!” This was when Shawn realized that our life together was going to be full of adventure. Working as a nurse in the ER taught me to live for the moment. We talked and within a few minutes Shawn said “Let’s do it.” Hence the start of “Adventure Roulette”. I knew just the friend that was crazy enough to help us out. I called her up and she agreed to help us plan this. The plan was the day before we left she would go online and could book us two tickets to anywhere in the world. Only stipulation was that we wanted to go somewhere we had never been. We gave her a limited budget and a time frame. You’d be amazed at the deals you can get the day before an international flight! We didn’t know if we’d end up in the U.S., a snowstorm or a nice sunny beach somewhere. Hardest trip ever to pack for. She placed our tickets in an envelope and off we went. With headphones in, standing in line to board the plane facing away from the desk the excitement grew in my chest. I loved it! Such a rush! We made it all the way to Costa Rica without a clue where in the world I was as we landed. I can’t even begin to put the feeling into words. It was amazing! When I asked the lady next to us what country we were in she looked at me with a confused look. I told her the story and she loved it. She asked where we were going to stay tonight and I said “That’s the thing. We have no idea.” She whispered to her husband then said “Want to come with us to Jaco? We own luxury condos and we happen to have one open.” We agreed, got through customs and off we went. They quickly became our new best friends and were the most incredible hosts our entire visit. We had the time of our lives and created the most amazing memories. Lesson learned, take a chance.
Unbelievably perfect!
Go with the flow. Dont sweat the small stuff (and it’s all small stuff). There are going to be hiccups along the way. It’s okay. Remember everything happens for a reason. Find yourself the best wedding planner and photographer. Remember this is YOUR wedding. Do what YOU want.
I think this little book is one of the most precious things I have ever seen! Shawn wrote in this book every day 100 days before his wedding. Some of the entries are just little memories of that day until the last where Shawn put day 0 ….”you will be my wife!” awwww filling up with tears!!!! so cute!

We did a first look and it was perfect. Allowed us to have that special moment where it felt like it was just the two of us. It really helped to put our minds at ease and it didn’t take away from how special that moment walking down the aisle is. It allowed us to be calm, fully present and in the moment.
Shawn – Seeing you walking down the aisle with your dad, picking you up after the ceremony to say “Yes! We did it”, crying as you read your vows to me, kissing you after we were pronounced husband and wife and seeing your smile as I sang to you after dinner.
I felt emotional, excited and couldn’t wait to marry my sweetheart – Shawn
We actually worked alongside one another in the Emergency Room for many years. Shawn was moving and needed to move some furniture. While working, he asked if I knew anyone that had a truck and trailer. As I would for any coworker, I offered up my assistance with moving and my dads truck and trailer. One thing lead to another and before you know it he asked me out on a date. Little did I know my soulmate had been right in front of my for the last 6 years and three years later we would be married.
It was the day before Shawn’s fifth Ironman Race and we had to drop off his bike and transition bags at the Monona Terrace. After unloading his gear he said he wanted to go down by the lake to scope out where the swim would be. He reached into his bag, got down on one knee, expressed his love to me and asked me to marry him. Without hesitation I said yes and the rest is history.
Melissa – We took 15 minutes to have some alone time after the ceremony before the reception began to take in what had just happened. No photographer, no videographer, just the two of us. We were officially husband and wife and after a year and a half of planning the moment had finally arrived. We talked, kissed, laughed and danced. Took it all in. It was perfect. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a wedding.

My fiance serenaded me after dinner. It was incredible. He sat me down in front of everyone and sang Perfect by Ed Sheeran. My dad said he got emotional (and my dad never tears up). It was amazing!! A moment I will never forget.
