All About The Dress
My mom, sister, best friend, niece and I went to Tampa to go dress shopping. Magnolia Laine was the third boutique we went to and it was such a wonderful experience. We had the entire place to ourselves and we were all allowed to look through the dresses and choose 8 for me to try on. I knew that I wanted something timeless but somewhat unique and I was also pretty adamant that I did not want lace. As this was the third boutique, I had already tried on dresses that I both liked and hated, so we decided to have some more fun with this appointment. We chose a range of dresses in every style. My dress was the last one chosen and the last I tried on. When I saw it on the rack, I just felt it was different. Before they even zipped me up, I knew it was the one. It was the perfect combination of everything I loved from all the previous dresses I had tried on. I affectionately call it ‘The Mullet Dress’… Business in the front, party in the back!
What Was Your Favourite Moments From the Wedding?
There are so many to choose from! Our first look was definitely a highlight (although George disagrees). For over a year, I planned a prank on George. My brother agreed to put on a dress and veil and pretend to be me. It gave us all a good laugh! Celebrating with all our family and friends, and particularly watching the kids take over the dance floor. They’ve got some serious moves!
All About The Groom’s Suit
George knew he wanted a grey suit, which we felt would go perfectly with the purple colour scheme. We looked online and agreed on a few options. As 3 of George’s groomsmen are also pilots, scheduling a trip where they are all available proved to be a nightmare! They finally made it happen but only had a 2-day window. They went to Miami and found exactly what they were looking for at their first stop.
How did you two meet?
It was September 2010. The go-kart track had recently opened and a corporate race league began. Kelcey and her best friend (and Maid of Honor), Brittny raced together on a team. Meanwhile Kelcey’s sister, Kim, and brother-in-law, Tom, were on another team. George, being Tom’s cousin, was asked to race with them. Having attended different schools, we had never seen each other before. It was at these races that George was watching Kelcey from the side-lines when he wasn’t on the track himself. He then worked up the courage to ask Brittny about her. It was then that Brittny had a brilliant idea! Brittny and Kelcey were starting Sixth Form and on orientation day, she told Kelcey that she found someone for her. Kelcey immediately said, ‘no’, without evening hearing who it was. She was adamant that she was happy being single and not looking for a relationship. Refusing to let it go, Brittny told Kelcey who she was referring to. Little did Kelcey know, she was colluding with George behind the scenes the entire time and one day, while sitting at home, Kelcey received a message on BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). It was one word: “Hey.” She decided to reply (but of course had to wait a while before doing so to leave him waiting in agony). That was the beginning of a conversation that has not ended since.
How Did He Pop the Question?
After 12 years together, on September 17th 2022, George asked me to marry him during a staycation at the Kimpton. Having already spent one night there, his nerves were getting the best of him, and he could not wait another night to make it to our official anniversary to pop the question. He hid the box with the ring under a pillow next to his phone and asked me to get his phone for him. Thinking I would lift the pillow up and see the box, he was dumbfounded when I passed him his phone and proceeded to walk to the bathroom. From behind me, I then heard him saying, “You’re blind!” and I turned around to see him holding the box in his hand. My immediate reaction was: “NOOO!” The moment he had planned for so long was failing miserably (Oops). Once the tears started to flow, he knew that I wasn’t answering ‘no’ to the question that he hadn’t even asked yet, but was clearly just in disbelief that this was actually happening. He then finally asked, and my answer was ‘Of course!’.
Can you tell us something cute or unique about your wedding?
Our song choices. We wanted the music at our wedding to be a true representation of us and our families. As George is a pilot, we decided that it would be perfect for the groomsmen to walk down the aisle to the Top Gun Theme Song. Kelcey loves country music and so she chose to walk down the aisle to ‘Then’ by Brad Paisley. While we signed the marriage register, the song ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ played which is the song both Kelcey’s mom and sister walked down the aisle to. It wouldn’t be a Caymanian/Trini wedding without soca! We were presented as Mr and Mrs for the first time to ‘I Love You’ by Machel Montano and had various soca songs played throughout the night. For our First Dance, we invited those who have been married for 10 years or longer to join us on the dance floor as we too hope that our marriage spans decades. Kelcey’s dad has an ongoing joke that the perfect wedding song is ‘Another One Bites the Dust’. Just as we were all gathered and ready to dance, we had our DJ play the chorus before switching to our actual song. Her dad (and everyone else) got a good laugh and it made his night!
How would you describe your overall wedding experience?
From the moment we got engaged, we agreed that we were only getting married once so we would do it right. We also agreed that if we wanted to have a stress-free day, we needed a wedding planner. Ashley was AMAZING! She handled everything and totally nailed our vision. Everyone around us kept commenting on how relaxed we looked leading up to it, and we truly were! We felt we were able to enjoy every moment and be present to take it all in. Time seemed to stand still that evening. We could not have asked for a more perfect day.
