Coordinate Instead Of Matching
Wear clothes you love
I always recommend clients to wear clothes they love and feel great in. When you feel great about what you're wearing, it makes a huge difference on camera.
Even if you're making a point of wearing something out of the ordinary, try to make sure you're ready to rock it before you step in front of the camera.
If you're shooting with other people, matching outfits is not necessarily the best idea for a dynamic picture. Most families don't wear matching outfits in their everyday lives, so that may not be the kind of memory you want to preserve. Colors that complement each other will be so much better.

Go With What Suits Your Family
Wear Clothing That Flows
Wear something that flows. This creates beauty and confidence. By wearing flowing clothes it gives you something to move and creates mood and a feeling of lightness. There is nothing worse then sitting for a photo and pulling on your clothes to smooth out where they are too tight.
We want YOU to be YOU, so don't force issues, it actually brings out the character and that is who you are. "A day in your life — instead of hiding it...". Some of my most favourite sessions are those when the 2 year old refuses to wear clothes or insists on wearing rubber boots. It's ok... I love that.
Start with one outfit that you know you want to be featured, pick a palette of 3-4 colors. Let this be your starting place. Think in terms of tones: blue tones, earth tones, neutrals, pastels, etc. Everyone in the family can express their own sense of style within the chosen color palette, and the whole group will coordinate beautifully. Laying it out on the bed or somewhere similar helps to visualize and build each outfit from there. The soft neutrals always bring the focus back to the people in the photos. This timeless look is easy to pull together, and (bonus!) dads love looking comfortable and not all dressed up. Avoid logos.
When choosing outfits think about how they will work when interacting with each other. For example if the little ones are wearing outfits that ride up when holding them, you will find yourself trying to pull their clothes down and stressing rather than having a good time. Outfits that button underneath are great as they will stay in place. Less is more, keep it simple.
Wear outfits that flatter your body type. Those conscious of weight in the tummy area or arms, wear clothes that conceal that. Maxi dresses, loose fitting outfits that you can wear a belt to add that fitted look.
