Elegant Private Seven Mile Beach Ceremony | Cayman Islands | Julie and Stephen
January 7, 2016
Julie and Stephen had a gorgeous, private but elegant ceremony on Seven Mile Beach with two of their friends. The weather was perfect and their favourite part of the wedding was being able to stand barefoot on the beach with the waves rolling in right behind the minister as he conducted the ceremony. Both Julie and Stephen wrote their own vows so they had a chance to read them to each other which was perfect. After the ceremony we headed off for some very fun photos and to release a few wish lanterns as the sunset. Julie and Stephen wanted to add some fun and special touches to the wedding which I thought were so different. Stephen received a gift from Julie which was a bracelet with the exact coordinates of the ceremony. I thought this was such an awesome touch, every time he looks at this bracelet he will remember the day. Check out the close up at the bottom of this post. Their rings were also custom made and Stephens had their thumb prints on it! Great taste! Julie’s sash on her dress had an anchor on it which just added to the already beautiful detail on the dress.
Do exactly what you two want to do with your wedding- big or small- it should be exactly what you want.
Right after we got engaged we knew we wanted a very simple wedding outside either in the mountains or at the beach. It was hard as we were planning as everyone always asked and assumed we were going to have a more traditional wedding or that we would be flying our family to the Grand Cayman to come to our ceremony. It was hard not to second guess our plans a few times as the time got closer. Luckily our families supported us and our decision to have a small ceremony that was centered on our love and commitment to each other and not overshadowed by a large wedding. The morning or our wedding day it was pouring! We took it in stride and accepted that it wasn’t the worst thing in the world if we got rained on because we were getting in such a beautiful place. By the time our first look came the rain cleared up and we had beautiful weather for the rest of the day. The ceremony was perfectly laid back, fun and modest which was true to our personalities and vision for the day.
Find a great, local wedding planner and the the planning will be a cinch. Desiree Boeyen of Cayman Island Beach Wedding and Events, did a wonderful job getting all the moving pieces lined up and most importantly doing all the official paperwork for us which was incredibly helpful! We would have been lost without her.
The Marriott Grand Cayman was great. They were accommodating and sent several little notes and treats to our room celebrating our wedding during our stay there; absolutely spoiling us.
I did not plan to wear a blush dress for the wedding but I ordered several dresses online and tried them on at home with all my sweet girlfriends there to help, which was super fun! They unanimously picked this one as the other ones I had ordered weren’t bridal enough. I had been trying to stick with simple dresses but they convinced me I needed to actually dress like a bride for my wedding day. I felt so great in this dress as it made me feel feminine and the sash really helped tie to together and make it a dress for the occasion. Stephen knew I had a sash but he apparently only thought sashes were the kind that beauty pageant girls wore from shoulder to hip so he couldn’t quite picture how it worked with a wedding dress- which was really quite funny!
Working with Rebecca was so much fun. She was so laid back and had an amazing eye for capturing the best photos. She showed us a few shots that she took while we were shooting and they looked amazing- even just on her camera screen! She offered to do wish lanterns with us which was very kind of her. Stephen’s family released wish lanterns in memory of his grandmother that passed away a few years ago so that was a really sweet and unexpected tie in for his family.
