Cayman Islands Wedding |Grand Old House | Hana and Shayne
June 23, 2015
Shayne and Hana chose the Grand Old to have their celebration and it was perfect. We started early and did some fun getting ready shots and then the couple headed off for some photos at Camana Bay, the weather was a bit dodgy this day but we were still able to get some gorgeous Caribbean shots.
We have been there several times, and just fell in love with the friendly people, the fact that it is a safe, clean, quiet destination, amazing food, and of course the white sand beaches, gorgeous palm trees, Caribbean blue water and hot weather! It’s the perfect getaway, so what better place is there to celebrate a wedding with all of your favorite people?

Shayne and I met in the fall of 2009. I needed a new big screen television wired following therapy shopping after a recent break-up, and my trusty neighbour at the time (now sister in law) offered up her brother. She gave me quite the sales pitch about her brother being “very handy, and can do just about anything”. Shayne managed to turn the wiring of the tv into a six month affair, during which time he even managed to drywall his expensive flashlight inside the living room wall. My daughter, four at the time, fell in love with him and would always push him to “go see mommy” when he was in the neighbourhood. Needless to say, he never left. He admitted several years later that it was all a part of his elaborate plan to make me fall in love with him since I moved in in 2005!What advice would you offer other couples planning a destination wedding?
Be prepared for what the weather might throw your way. We had a torrential downpour the day prior and the day of our wedding, and so I spent the night before and the morning eating Haagen-Dazs ice cream and stressing out. We were extremely lucky because the heavy rain had slowed by the time of our wedding, however we definitely did not have the “carribean” backdrop that we were obviously planning for! What matters most, and the things to keep in mind, were that the most important people were there, our girls were happy, and that I was marrying my best friend and the love of my life.
We did do a first look, and I would absolutely have done it again. It eases some of the stress to have some time alone and talk before you take the plunge and walk down the aisle!
My absolute favourite moments were seeing the kids all dressed up (they were adorable), and my nine year old daughter tear up during the vows. This was an important day for her and I was elated that the minister included both girls in such a meaningful way in the ceremony.
Rebecca, we can’t say enough good things about you. We were so surprised and absolutely grateful that you came out on another (sunnier) day so we could still have some beach photos to show from our wedding. It absolutely made our trip, you have no idea. All of our guests raved about how sweet, personable, and helpful you were, and you are just awesome with kids too! We would love to get some anniversary photos with you, when we are old and wrinkly!
