FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS | BUBBLES AND MUDDY PUDDLES |
Today we take a break from weddings to show you a fun capture of The Walsh Family, whose wedding I photographed quite a few years ago when I was 8 months pregnant in Jamaica and now…. “We family” ! Kat promised that if I did happen to have the baby while photographing her wedding, her mum was a midwife so everything would be fine…… NO PROBLEM MON, I always wanted a Jamaican baby! So off to Jamaica we fly, to the incredible venue of Tryall, which is amazing…. a few shots of their wedding to be seen here…
Now, fast forward a few years later and today….. Kat and Steve are the proud mummy and daddy of these two little people with personalities to match their fun family. I love working with this couple!!!! When I got to the house Kat’s mum AND Grandma are there reading to the kids… YES 4 GENERATIONS! We photograph the kids in amazing little outfits that Kat is dying to dress up her little girl, one outfit every 10 minutes :), then the tin bath came out…. When Gunnar knew that his mum was cool with the mud, and yes it is okay to wipe it on you and jump in muddy puddles…. now we are talking fun!!! For the kids too :), not just Kat and I!! Thank goodness mum was there to clean up the mess we left those babies in! Everyone was happy….except maybe Steve…I think his football club lost (He was sneaking watching his game while we slogged away getting covered in mud? Sorry mate!
Each time we do a shoot with Becs we are looking to do something different and creative. This time we wanted to incorporate a travel theme as we recently travelled across the world to South Africa for my brothers wedding. The other idea we came up with was a bubble bath which then turned into Gunnar creating some awesome muddy puddles and getting them both filthy! So much fun!
We had their grandmother, affectionately known as “Mae Mae” and Great-Grandmother “Gramma”, as she is known to any and everyone, also join in on the shoot. We are a large close knit family, not only do we have family dinners twice a week where the kids get to see all their Aunties & Uncles in addition to their Grandparents and “Gramma” but Mae Mae and Gramma also come over to read and play with the kids while we are at work during the week as well. I’m well aware of how blessed we are to be able to have that time spent between the four generations and it’s something I treasure and wanted to capture.
All these items are very precious to Kat and borrowed from her mum and a grandfathers watch and compass… honestly amazing stuff!!This is GREAT grandma reading to Gunnar (like I mean Great Grandma.. not just a great grandma) how can I say this properly???YEP mum IS a bubble making machine!!!!!
In both cases we wanted something unique and strong. We had a top three list picked out while they were still marinating in the womb and once we met them decided what fit their personalities. Gunnar’s middle name, Liam, is just like Becs’ youngest so we also have that in common. Scarlett’s middle name, Mae, is after her grandmother, Annie Mae.
Okay Gunnar, you can put the mud on you and Scarlett!!! AND then you can jump in the muddy puddles… Peppa Pig got nothing on us!!!
Gunnar is an energetic, funny, train obsessed little man who loves swimming, fishing, and jumping in muddy puddles like Peppa Pig. He is protective and affectionate with his little sister and thinks Cayman parrots are “Green, blue and strawberry jam” colour. Scarlett is quick to share a gummy grin and giggle, loves music and necklaces, adores her brother, has crazy reverse ombré hair with blond roots and dark tips and is on the verge of crawling to chase after her brother and puppy brother, Hercules.
No photographers were harmed in the photographing of this family session…. however the photographer WAS subjected to a lot of mud, a lot of water and a lot of cuddles!!
Because she is amazing! Not only does Rebecca have an eye for that perfect shot, she genuinely cares enough to take the time needed to get that perfect shot. She knows exactly what to do to engage the kids and is willing to get creative and silly while shooting. Rebecca has been our family photographer since our marriage in Jamaica in 2009. She flew over while she was heavily pregnant with her youngest, Liam and was scrambling over rocks on a beach to capture the moments. We really did think Liam was going to be born on that beach!
