I booked my first appointment at Now and Forever Bridal in Houston, TX, after seeing their designers online. I really liked the Blush by Hayley Paige and Hayley Paige line, so I knew I wanted to see what they had. Keep in mind, my only option was a sample sale off the rack due to timing because I went in December and our wedding was in February! My mom and I walked in and they had a number of off the rack dresses to choose from. Of course my mom wanted me to try on the poofy and super girly ones, so I agreed to try on one for her haha. I saw my dress on the rack and knew it would be the one! I tried it on 2nd and everyone knew it was the one…except for my mom because I saved her dress for last. I tried hers on and she cried and I laughed at myself in the huge poofy prom dress and instantly put the other one on. She agreed with me 100% the one I loved was meant to be.
On the afternoon of Friday, November 13, 2015, I was in our apartment watching TV on the sofa in the living room (basically our only room at the time, 550 sq ft studio, so take the word living room lightly because it was also our bedroom and kitchen). Payton had agreed to pick up my (now our) dog Deke from doggie daycare after work. After about 45 minutes (we live 4 minutes from work and doggie daycare), I texted him asking what was taking him so long haha. He said traffic. Well about 20 minutes later, my dog rushes in with red roses all tucked into his harness and a red bow made from ribbon tied around him with a ring on it. Deke instantly shook and all the roses fell the to the ground! Payton walked over to me sitting on the sofa and got on one knee. TEARS. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal….Payton, our dog and in our apartment. He tried numerous times for Deke not to shake off the roses in the apartment hall, which is what took him so long. He kept having to put all the roses back! haha He also bought a nice bottle of Veuve (ended up being our wedding champagne) and we curled up and watched a movie that night.
The View from the brides villa at the Caribbean Club was not too shabby!
We did our personal vows in private during our first look, before our ceremony. We couldn’t believe the time had finally come and the emotions were strong. Before I walked down the aisle, all I could think was how happy I was, but also how surreal it felt! We had beautiful weather and everything was perfect. Walking down the aisle with my father figure, who was encouraging me and expressing his happiness, was an amazing memory.
One thing I LOVE about the Caribbean Club as a venue is that you still have the privacy of a deserted beach.Â
Our favorite moments were doing our first look and private vows before the wedding. We took on a dock with Payton facing the ocean and I walked up behind him to call his name. When he turned around, we both cried. What a emotional moment and I’m glad we experienced it alone together. Taking photos on the beach alone during sunset was also one of our favorite moments. We finally had some champagne and were able to finally “relax” and be ourselves. Our first dance with each other and than with his mom and my brother were also great moments. Truly just everyone relaxing and enjoying themselves with beautiful scenery and weather made the day.
Jackie Soriano was my hair and makeup artist that was recommended to me. I found out during our bridal trials (which I didn’t even need because she nailed it the first try) that she actually has done and still does some of my friends hair on the island. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed on the big day with a lot of laughs. Her work was amazing and my hair and makeup wouldn’t have lasted if anyone else would have done it. Tears at the first look and followup photos didn’t look flawed because of her magic! The wind didn’t even phase my hair either! My mom and Payton’s mom had their hair done by her and had nothing but nice things to say as well. DJ Glenroy Murray was recommended to me by my very good friend that lives on the island. We chatted over e-mail and he instantly had amazing suggestions for different types of songs for the entrance, cake cutting and bouquet tossing. He made it had for us to choose between his amazing suggestions! We had no idea what type of music the play for the cocktail reception and dinner, so we told him whatever! He did a spectacular job! Perfect selection! Payton and I were at Royal Palms on Tuesday before the wedding and I looked over and saw a man wearing a t-shirt that said Glenroy Murray. Me being me, I ran over and asked if he was DJ Glenroy Murray. He laughed and said yes and that his tshirt marketing works! I laughed and told him who I was. He instantly gave me a huge hug and said he was so excited for Saturday. He couldn’t have been nicer! Everyone loved his music selection, he took requests and also had a smile on his face. A couple days after the wedding, we went back to Royal Palms and happened to run into him again while he was working. He made an announcement with all the cruise shippers there that we were newlyweds! He was yet again, very kind and said he had a great time at our wedding.
The Caribbean Club boast a HUGE beach on the famous Seven Mile Beach. The Caribbean Club also offers high end villas which all overlook the ocean.
Only tips would be to have an amazing hair and makeup artist (Jackie Soriano)! You gave us a perfect timeline that worked out well and we wouldn’t have changed anything.
We did our first look photos and private vows before the wedding. We wouldn’t have done it any other way. It was our favorite part of our day.
Be yourselves. We aren’t big photo people, so it was a little nerve racking having to take photos! Everyone on the team made us feel very comfortable, so make sure you meet with your photographer before you make a decision based off photos online. You need to have a “connection” and/or a good feeling, and trust me…you will know! We connected with Rebecca Davidson instantly and we felt like we could be ourselves. Also, bring tissues 🙂
Luca is a fantastic restaurant right on property at Caribbean Club so you have fine dining when you come off the beach.
Amazing. All of the vendors did an amazing job and truly made an amazing experience for us and our guests. There is nothing we could have changed! The day was special and will never be forgotten.
Be a team. One person shouldn’t have to do it all! Payton was helpful and always help me make decisions. Do research and make sure its something you BOTH want.
Our first song was an acoustic cover we found of “Shut Up and Dance” (originally an upbeat song by Walk the Moon) by Anchor + Bell. Since we started dating the song was always on the radio and we claimed it as our song! We were happy to find and acoustic version. Payton’s favorite line is, “This women is my destiny”, so he always chants it! It might be a little outside the box, but it was probably an original wedding first dance song! We decided my brother and I would dance for a bit alone and than Payton and his mom would join us, so we wouldn’t bore our guests too much with so much dancing! My brother and I had to pick a song that would be appropriate for all of us to dance to. My brother picked Wildflowers by Tom Petty. My brother wanted a song that expressed how he felt in that moment, which was he was happy that I had found happiness and wanted me to let go of the past and move onto this next chapter of my life happy and free.
Do research online and plan a trip a few months before! We only had 2.5 months to plan a destination wedding, but with help of the internet and friends down there it was easy. You can plan meetings and meet with different vendors to see who is right for you and who is not. Destination is the way to go!
Payton and I were amazed and couldn’t be thankful enough to have you by our side! You are personable and made us feel very comfortable (as much as a bride and groom can be on their big day). Driving with you to my first look was truly a fun experience and when I saw him when we pulled up and I said, “This is CRAZY!”, you laughed and made me feel that was a normal reaction haha. You had great direction and tips for the photos. We couldn’t have done it without you!
I used Etsy.com for a lot of decorations and custom items for the wedding. We did all of our invitations and soon to be thank you cards from Minted.com. These two sites make it easy and affordable!
We were nervous about the weather because it hadn’t been the best the days leading up to it. However, the skies cleared and it was a beautiful day! We couldn’t believe the high was only 75! No sweat, just tears 🙂

I grew up visiting the island since I was a little girl with close friends (more like family after all these years) and always wanted an intimate wedding experience. After I had brought Payton to visit a few times, it just felt like the right place for our special day. The owner of the Caribbean Club is like a father to me and having spent much time in the area I couldn’t imagine a better location. Barefoot, blue water and a beautiful sunset….how could you not choose a Cayman Islands destination wedding!?
Vanessa found Rebecca Davidson by researching the Caribbean Club wedding website and Facebook. I than was told Rebecca had done numerous wedding and shoots for close family friends.
