We were so excited to photograph Orchid and Calvert’s wedding at the beautiful Caribbean Club. Orchid is from Cayman, but went to Bermuda to work and met Calvert. They headed back over to our island for their wedding on a cruise so bringing with them a bunch of guests and family all the way from Bermuda. Orchid tells her story below….
Dream Wedding
I had my dream wedding at my dream location, the Caribbean Club and LUCA Restaurant on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, in my home country where I was born and raised- the Cayman Islands. My wedding planner Juliette Heath from Five Star Events made sure that everything ran smoothly and on time, which was a crucial factor because our wedding was a “cruise ship wedding” and we had limited amount of time. We hopped off, got married and then hopped back on the boat. There were so many things that had to be perfect, obviously the timing but most of all the weather, in order for us to get married that day. The ceremony was outside on the lawn of the Caribbean Club condo complex. We were told that it was pouring rain the day before our wedding and again the day after our wedding, but I tell you not a lie, on the day of, it sprinkled for a brief moment and then the weather held up beautifully. The overcast sky was perfect for our guests because they were not too hot and for pictures by our photographer, Rebecca Davidson of Picture This Studio in Cayman.
Our reception was at LUCA restaurant on Seven Mile Beach Grand Cayman and I do not know where to begin at how superb, professional and amazing the staff were from start to finish. They worked with all our vendors from DJ TnT to Cakestudio in Cayman in order to make our reception the dream that it was and the food was to die for. The Décor was even better than I imagined it and incorporated the wedding colours which were canary yellow, tiffany blue and white, perfectly. I did all the essentials at the reception; cut the cake, first dance, father – daughter dance and throw the bouquet and my husband and I still had time for some additional photos at Camana Bay before being whisked back to the boat in the stretch limo.
Okay now for the exciting part about my dress and shoes. What I am about to tell you is almost unbelievable but I promise you, this actually happened.
I got my $200 shoes for $56 in a double half off sale at my favorite designer store Karen Millen in Lenox Mall, Atlanta Georgia in the US. I am not opposed if you like them, but I have never been keen on those clunky white ones that they try to sell you at some bridal salons under to auspice of comfort and practicality. So I was happy with my shoes because I can wear them again without being obvious wedding attire.
As for the Dress, I got my dress as Demetrious in Atlanta. My advice to any bride-to- be would be not to spend too much time searching on-line, instead go to a bridal salon and first determine the silhouette that you want. Once you’ve decided on the silhouette that works for your body type you can get that shape in the designer, fabric and colour that you want, makes sense right? Even though it was fun at the time, I regret all those hours searching online and saving pictures of dresses.
So, I had tried on so many dresses that day having attended four bridal salons (crazy I know). I would not recommend that many appointments in one day, but I had a tight schedule. The dress that I ended up getting was the very last dress I tried on, by then “trying on dresses” fatigue had set in so I could not make up my mind. My friends were adamant that was “The Dress” but I could not decide having reflected on ‘the one’ that made me cry that morning. Which I’ve since realized that the only reason I cried was because it was the first time I saw myself as a bride. Then another miracle occurred, Demetrious happened to have that dress, in my size, no alternations needed, brand new, perfect length and everything! I did not need to come back for subsequent fittings or anything at all! Someone had ordered it but decided on a different one last minute and so I was the fortunate benefactor of their change of plans. When I tell people this story, they can’t believe that actually happened, how lucky am I? It was as if “My Dress” (as I now call it) was just waiting there for me.
I could go on and on about our wedding day but I have to tell you even though I had “my dream wedding” with all the bells and whistles I wanted, what’s important is not that I had the “wedding of my dreams”, what’s important is that I am now with “the man of my dreams”.
