Lina emailed me and asked if I would photograph the 50th wedding anniversary and vow renewal of her parents, Leonora and Ben. I was so thrilled to be part of this celebration and get to see the very emotional renewal of vows from this incredible couple. Standing side by side and tears in their eyes, they vowed to continue to love each other as their 4 children, son-in-laws and daugther-in-laws and 10 grandchildren stood inches away supporting them and witnessing such a beautiful and touching ceremony! I asked Lina to give me a brief history of her parents who immigrated from the Philippines to the USA many years ago fresh out of medical school, to then join the US Navy and retire as a Naval Captain and Commander (yes their mum was the Naval Commander). It was so obvious to see how close this family was and how important it was for them to all be together and make the trip to the Cayman Islands for this special occasion. I just love the shot of them looking at each other under the Poinciana tree!!!!
As told by Lina: “My parents were 23 years old recent medical school graduates from the Philippines and immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio. They were not yet married but decided to leave home to secure a better life and to help support their family in the Philippines. They married at St. Augustine Church in Cleveland, Ohio and then raised four children, Lina (me), Liza, Benjamin, and Lenore. There are now 10 grandchildren all together! They raised us in Cleveland, Ohio and it wasn’t easy to raise four children all one year apart, doing residency at the hospital, and being on call, plus dealing with the harsh winters. I look back and am amazed that they juggled all of it together,
In 1978, my parents joined the US Navy. We all moved to the Philippines and then back again to the states to Corpus Christi, Texas. My dad served for over 10 years and retired as a Captain and mom served 25 years and retired as a Commander with military honor. Now both retired, we are thankful and praise God for all the blessings that have been bestowed on my parents and our family. My parents gave us a strong foundation of faith, the importance of God in our life, provided a good education, and a good life for us.We are very happy to be a witness to their 50 years of marriage. My mom has not been in the best of health but she has been looking forward to this celebration since we were having their 25th wedding celebration!
We don’t get together as a family too often so this is even extra special. I just wanted you to know my parents in this brief e-mail and let you know what good examples they have been to me and to my siblings and if it weren’t for them we wouldn’t be here!”
Well it is obvious that these parents are loved!!! Congratulations Ms Leonora and Mr Ben for providing such a wonderful example and raising such a loving family!!!! Truly honoured to have been able to photograph your ceremony 🙂 xxxxx rebecca
