Kim is originally from Mexico City and grew up outside of New York City. Derek was born in New Jersey and raised in Tampa, Florida.
THE DRESS
My dress was a modern take with a timeless piece. I was in love with the corset top and actually had the gown made in silk as it originally came in a crepe/mate material. I was with my best friend Christina when I found it and I tried it on at my second fitting.
THE PLANNER
Charlotte Loughead from Celebrations. WE LOVED Charlotte. She was so professional and organized. She made us feel calm throughout the entire process and I’m so grateful she was leading the charge.
HOW WAS THE DAY
People say that your wedding is the best day of your life, and before I got married I used to think that was so cheesy. The best day of your life? Really? But since marrying Derek on 12/14/24 in the Cayman Islands, I can confidently say…..your wedding is truly the best day of your life 🙂
THE VENUE
The Westin, South Beach was the perfect plot of sand for us to get married at. The backdrop was unbeatable but really it was the staff that sold us. We knew we would be taken care of start to finish and we really were.
THE DECOR
Charlotte and the Celebrations team crushed it! Our decor was “modern but elegant” (similar to the style if was going with for my dress). Island and lush colors while preserving the elegant elements of a more traditional wedding.
HOW YOU MET
We met in the summer of 2018 while we were both working at the same law firm. Kim was a summer intern and Derek was a rising third-year associate.
HOW DID DEREK POP THE QUESTION
At our house in upstate New York, the Western Catskills. I went out for a quick hike by myself and when I came back, the fire was lit, the Christmas tree lights were on and music was playing. When I walked into the house, Derek was on one knee with our golden retriever (Boomer) beside him.
THE AISLE
I felt amazing and grateful and electric. I couldn’t believe Derek was so emotional waiting for me at the end of the aisle so that’s really what grabbed most of my attention.
THE KISS
a RELIEF. The ceremony was really emotional so I think we were both happy to finally be at the fun part!
UNIQUE EVENTS
We ran into the ocean at the end of the party! That was fun (though Derek had his phone in his back pocket…). The weather and overall experience was all extraordinarily magical.
THE RECEPTION
The party was so so fun! I loved changing into my second dress which was short and fun. We’re big dancers so the music was important to us and our DJ did an excellent job. We also had fresh coconuts which were a hit with guests as well as the cigar lounge. One of the most special elements of our wedding was that a majority of the signage was hand painted by Derek’s aunt, Roberta, who is an extremely talented water-color artist. Seeing her beautiful work throughout the evening was so special. Lastly, it was an intimate, small wedding which made the evening that much more special.
