The Venue
Casa De La Era is just the most gorgeous and rustic venue and everything we dreamed of. We first fell in love with the cobbles, natural greenery and view of the sea far in the distance from the amazing Ampitheatre. It seemed so romantic and intimate with so much natural beauty. We loved the different areas and levels for different parts of the day. We immediately fell in love with the venue in the bright sun and seeing it come to life with the fairylights at night was just magical and a real Mamma Mia moment!
The Dress
I saw my dress online a long time ago and thought it was gorgeous and the dream dress but not one that would typically suit my body shape, so I resigned myself to the fact I wouldn’t get it. I loved all the dresses by this designer which was shocked at The Aisle in Skipton, Yorkshire. I booked to go with my Mum Nicola, my sister/maid of honour Lucy and my now Mother in Law Jenny. It was the most amazing day – I tried on approx 10 dresses and one of them was THE dress that I had seen online. It ended up being the one I chose! I am very indecisive so I didn’t have that blow away moment but after comparing with all other dresses and a long time in front of the mirror, I decided with help from my squad that it was the one. We were so excited and finished the day with lunch and champagne on the terrace at Alexander’s Skipton. A day we will never forget, with many tears!
How did you Meet
Ben and I shared mutual friends and after a failed attempt of messaging me to go on a date (which turned out to be Ben’s friend Jordan on his behalf), we weirdly started working at the same place! Ben saw his opportunity to message me again and this time I was single and thought he was worth a reply as I had seen him in a bar that weekend and thought he was very handsome! We have not stopped chatting and laughing since and are just the best friends and have the best time together
How did Ben pop the question
We were going camping in Pocklington UK but always love to start any morning with a coffee in bed. We had everything packed downstairs including snacks for the trip such as chocolate digestives. Ben brought me a coffee bright and early and I said “did you not read my mind, I was hoping you’d bring me a biscuit!” to which he replied “no but I have brought you something better…” and got down on one knee! Everything is a blur from then but it involved lots of tears and hugs and of course the answer YES!
Decor and Flowers
Deseos Florist did an absolutely amazing job of flowers and decor for our day. It’s so weird putting your ideas and trust into someone else and then seeing it all come to life so perfectly as you had imagined! Karen and her team were so helpful and communicative throughout the process and just knew exactly our vision. When the flowers were delivered in the morning I couldn’t believe how perfect they were. Everything just looked amazing and our guests were so complimentary of it all as well. The candles also added to the complete elegance of it all. Our multi-talented singing bridesmaid Jess designed our signs and also created our table names/name cards etc. through her business Storii and Soul, which were just amazing, simple and elegant and all in line with our invitations which she had also designed!
First Look
I (meg) did a first look with my Dad who burst into tears and was inconsolable! I think Rebecca even said he was the most emotional dad she’d ever seen. He is such a softie despite being an ex-homicide detective! But I tried to calm him down by telling him he had a job to do in walking me down the aisle, and from then on he kept it pretty together!
The Day
The day was beyond our wildest imaginations! The first thing that stands out was that my bridesmaid Jess walked down the aisle and caught everyone off guard as it wasn’t to a specific song and they didn’t notice she was coming – the reason was that she then went to the microphone and started to sing! Jess is an amazing singer which everyone knew, but nobody knew she would sing our aisle song! Hearing the gasps from our guests when I was waiting to go down was so magical. We created such an uplifting vibe from then on with amazing music from Nano (Bamboleo was a hit!), a lively playlist accompanied by Aperol Spritz, and then napkins in the air when Ben & I came down the amphitheatre to the wedding meal! Speeches were amazing (my Dad in particular with his segment from Taken), and then when the disco came, everyone was surprised by my friends breaking out into a choreographed dance routine to Hold On by Wilson Phillips! This set the party mood, with the best DJ (Pedro), violin (Annya) and sax (Leonardo) set to follow and keep our guests on the dancefloor all night long. Best night ever!!!
The Aisle
I felt weirdly calm all morning despite everyone else feeling very emotional and nervous! And walking down I just felt in awe seeing everyone’s faces and looking at the flowers/the beauty of the venue – I couldn’t stop turning to see people. I had my dad with me who had been very emotional but was somehow holding it together which made me feel reassured. Everyone looked so happy, and then when I saw Ben he was crying so much! Which did make me want to cry too. But I was just so happy to grab his hands and be stood there with him (after my dad finally let him go from the biggest hug ever). It was magical!
The Vows
We wrote our own vows which people loved. Our first dance was more uplifting than slow and romantic, as we danced to A Night To Remember and Volare was played shortly after. We didn’t throw the bouquet or have a cake! My Maid of Honour also did an amazing speech for us which isn’t typically traditional but she made us all laugh and cry. Later on she added to the speech on the dancefloor with a Cava-fuelled performance of Believe by Cher – her song!!!
The Kiss
If you mean the one at the end of the Aisle then it’s all a huge blur! We loved the wooping and cheers from our guests as we kissed and it was so nice as we had not seen each other all day and it felt like a lifetime! There were many more kisses throughout the day and night – for some reason you don’t care about PDA on your wedding day and just can’t stop hugging and kissing haha!
Taking Photos
It was so fun to be with our bridal and groomsmen squad and seeing them interact together! When Rebecca made Nano play Bamboleo again for the bridesmaids to dance to it really helped relax and excite us. We loved doing a TikTok in the morning and just generally having loads of relaxed fun with Rebecca and Noah – everything felt so at ease. Ben is not one to enjoy photos or seriousness and we both absolutely loved getting pictures together and being soppy!! The love you feel on a wedding day really just makes everything feel so normal
The Reception
We made sure to include Aperol Spritz our favourite cocktail during the drinks reception. We were greeted with so much love from our guests and loved being able to finally relax, and have a drink and get ready to start the party! It was also really nice to have pictures with family specifically my Grandma who was the star of the whole week!
The Highlight
We are still on the biggest high whilst also on such a comedown from the best week and day of our entire lives. We built up to this moment for over 2 years with numerous PPG meetings (Prosecco Planning Group) and thought about basically nothing else so to experience it was just out of this world. Literally nothing went wrong and every guest, supplier and planner involved in the day were just so loving and supportive and helpful. We have never felt so much love and excitement and cannot stop watching all the videos and photos we have so far. Thank you EVERYONE particularly our parents and siblings who we would not be anywhere without!!! It was just the best day to celebrate hopefully a lifetime to come of more celebrations with each other.
The First Dance
Ben was extremely nervous for the first dance – and I wasn’t particularly excited as both of us have very questionable dance styles! But because of how happy and excited we were all day, it just didn’t seem like a big deal and was so much fun being up there, especially when our guests joined us on the dancefloor. The upbeat song really set the tone for the evening as well
