The dress was essence of Austrailia and the groom’s suit was Tommy Hilfiger.
All I knew with regards to dress shopping was that I wanted lace and that I wouldn’t be able to decide without my mom. My parents are currently living in Grand Cayman so I waited to look at dresses until she came home. Her and my aunt Sherry spent the weekend in St John’s, in a hotel and made a weekend of dress shopping. Once I tried it on it blew the other options away. We went to one more store to be sure but nothing compared. I wanted something classic and timeless and the veil pulled it all together for me. The service we revived at Ever After was the best we received at any salon. Jason looks fantastic in blue so I knew he would wear a navy suit. First we debated on a jacket or just a dress shirt but we knew for photos we wanted him to be dressed up enough to match my dress and so we decided on the suit – I’m glad we did. He looked great. 🙂
Jackie Soriano did my hair and make up as well as some of the bridal party. Seriously? This girl is amazing. Not only did she make everyone so beautiful that I cried watching them walk down the aisle but she was SO fun. We all hit it off and felt like she could have been a bridesmaid. She hit it out of the park in every way. I’m SO thankful we went with her. She made me feel like a million bucks and didn’t get any lipstick on my teeth while I was laughing at her as she applied my makeup. Jackie – you brought something to the day that no one else could have. You should be very proud of what you do and who you are. Xo
For Jason his favourite moment was the first look. That was what made everything real. It was really special but it also meant we weren’t nervous for the ceremony. For me it was the first look but also the entire week. We were able to have our closest friends and family together and we created so amazing memories that we will cherish forever.
Throughout the year we keep a memory jar. We put big accomplishments and small funny moments in the jar and on New Years we read it. We were at my family’s cabin in May, my favourite place in the world – playing Jenga and I came out to find our memory jar. Jason had filled it with memories he had of me from the last 15 years. Like “when I get to hear you singing because you don’t know I have come home.” “The day you taught me that butter and margarine are not the same thing.” And “when we dance in the kitchen”. The last two read “when I sat down to write you these memories to show you how much I love you” and “when I asked you to memory.”. I laughed and cried through the whole thing. It was perfect.
We did a first look before the wedding and now I’m SO glad we did. Jason is pretty shy so I knew he would be nervous for the ceremony. Now he will tell you that first look was the best part of the whole day. It was such a special moment. And because we did that the nervousness went away and we were both able to be present and remember the ceremony.
Jason and I first met when I was in grade 9 and he was in grade 12. I took him to my Christmas formal. He moved away to go to university and we completely lost touch for 5 years. When I was in my third year of university in Nova Scotia we reconnected. He decided to come visit me there (which I now understand was a HUGE deal because he is so shy.) after that the rest was history and it’s been a great 9 years.
Sarah made hand painted wooden signs, framed prints and chalkboards. The floral arrangements were in a variety of vases wrapped in bark and we had a mix of gold candle holders, and hardcover books.
All of the flowers were a mixture of peonies, blush rose, succulents, hydrangea and hypericum berries.
Rebecca’s photos are amazing but the best part of working with her is her personality. She made everyone so comfortable. She brought fun to the photos but also a sense of calmness. Everyone including the guests raved about how amazing she was and they were sad she couldn’t stay for the entire party. If there is anything you invest in for your wedding – let it be Rebecca! She didn’t just do amazing photos she helped me with vendors, she was able to give advice and I feel like she just got us as a couple.
Before I walked down the aisle I was just really calm and happy.
Nathan Herrara did an amazing job playing guitar for our cocktail hour. Everyone raved about him.
My bridal party was good to go. They didn’t need a talk. We had so much fun getting ready with Jackie and loved Rebecca and her tips and guidance.
We were so happy that the hiccups along the way didn’t matter. There is nothing better than the feeling of being surrounded by love from your family, friends and partner. That was where we put our focus so every single moment was amazing.
Be specific. If you have a vision of how you want your day to look or play out – you can not assume other people can also see that vision. Give specific details on your decor, flowers and what you are expecting so that on that day you don’t have to think about it.
Decide what’s most important and make sure you have that. Then ask yourself – is this something I will remember? Will the wedding be the same without it? By doing this there were some things I was able to remove and honestly no one noticed.
For us photography was the most important aspect of our wedding. You will only get one chance to take these photos – invest in what you want! We did engagement photos with Rebecca and so when she showed up we were already comfortable with her. You want to be genuine and yourself in these photos – so I feel that was really helpful for us. Give some thought to specific photos or combinations of people you want.
A year and a half ago my parents moved to grand Cayman. I never had any desire to have a destination wedding. The idea of getting married on a resort with strangers watching just didn’t apply to me. When we came to visit last Easter we fell in love and found ourselves thinking about how amazing it would be for our friends and family to experience the island like we did. So we decided next Easter we would get married there so we could have a whole week with our important people in such an amazing setting. It meant we would have a much smaller wedding than one we would have at home so we took the approach of – If I can’t imagine that day without you, then you have to come!
